Webmasters Push for Switch From GIF (internet.com, November 5th)
Angered by Unisys' modified license policy stating that those who develop or post images in the GIF format must pay a one-time $5000 licensing fee, a group of developers is attempting to publicise the superiority of competing (free) compression formats, such as JPEG and PNG, through a series of protests.
Casualty of the Browser Wars (Internet Day, November 1st)
The real victims in the browser wars seem to have been the web designers, with each browser rushing out new proprietary features, while largely ignoring the standards imposed by W3C. While painful, all designers should test their creations across multiple browsers and multiple platforms before going live, or else risk losing a large segment of their potential users.
